Opening the meeting, CSMMUA Coalition Coordinator Edith Sifuna expressed appreciation to coalition partners for their continued support, commitment, and resilience in advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) advocacy. She noted that the quarterly meetings provide an important opportunity for members to review progress made throughout the year and align efforts towards achieving the goals outlined in the coalition’s 2024–2028 Strategic Plan.

The discussion focused on planning strategic advocacy engagements around Supreme Court Constitutional Appeal No. 1 of 2026 (arising from Petition 10), a case with significant implications for access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Members discussed advocacy priorities in response to the case and reflected on global policy developments that continue to shape abortion advocacy.
Coalition members also reviewed and reflected on the coalition’s 2026 priorities and planned activities across the different thematic areas, ensuring that efforts remain aligned and responsive to emerging challenges and opportunities.
In addition, the meeting created space for both new and existing members to align their work within the coalition’s thematic areas. This process strengthened collaboration and provided clarity on where each organization contributes most effectively in support of the coalition’s shared goals.
The quarterly meeting discussions also fed into the documentation of best practices in abortion advocacy and broader SRHR work, contributing to the coalition’s wider research and learning agenda.
Through continued collaboration and strategic engagement, CSMMUA members remain committed to advancing policies and legal frameworks that contribute to reducing maternal mortality and improving access to safe and equitable reproductive health services for women and girls in Uganda.
