Voices engaged 30 girls from Nkumba University in an Info Café,  a safe space where girls could openly discuss issues related to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The session provided an opportunity for learning, myth-busting, sharing experiences, and, most importantly, accessing accurate SRHR information and guidance on where to seek services.

In addition to the students, 2 female hostel custodians also joined the discussion. They showed great interest in learning more about SRHR so they could better support the girls under their care.

“Basawo – meaning doctors in our local language, I have always wanted to learn more about family planning because my girls often come to me for advice, thinking I have knowledge about the different methods,” said Dorren, one of the custodians.

Another custodian, Brenda, added,

“Some of my girls have terminated pregnancies in unsafe ways, and some end up with complications. I encourage you to continue engaging our girls with this life-saving information so that they can make informed SRHR choices.”

The Info Café aims to normalize conversations around SRHR and ensure that every girl has access to accurate information, non-judgmental services, and supportive environments.

“Many of us didn’t know about the different methods of family planning,” shared Suzan, one of the students. “Today, I leave empowered and ready to educate my peers.”

The Info Café is one of Voices’ models for reaching young people in universities with youth-friendly SRHR information and linking them to essential services.
